Firemen v. The Fan
Meanwhile, Robert De Niro will have to go another round in a case that has Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. suing the Taxi Driver for “misrepresenting his health on a movie production insurance form.”
On Tuesday, US District Judge Manuel Real denied De Niro’s lawyers’ motion, which labeled the suit “a case that should never have been filed,” to dismiss.
In the complaint, Fireman’s Fund claims the actor misrepresented his health in claiming on an insurance form that he had never been diagnosed with or treated for prostate cancer.
According to court documents, De Niro underwent a prostate biopsy on October 10, 2003. He signed the insurance form on October 12 and was diagnosed with prostate cancer on October 15. In receiving medical treatment for the cancer, De Niro delayed production on Hide and Seek. The cost to Fireman’s Fund Insurance was over $1.8 million.
