Regardless of the Geneva Convention, many soldiers in most wars will not capture enemies, and be forced to care for them. Especially if the captors are in such a small group, whose mission is a long way from being completed, and have no support. They may have not been allowed to do that but it happened a lot, and showing that it did in that movie was true to that war.
